Jim King Firefighter Memorial Upcoming Events

The Jim King Memorial Scholarship Certified 5K Event, Horseshoe Tournament, and Waterball Tournament held the next to the last weekend in June every year. The 5K starts and ends at the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Company located at 150 Herrick Ave., Sayre, Pennsylvania in Athens Township.

3rd Annual Jim King Memorial Scholarship 5K
- Saturday, June 21, 2008.
- Registration will begin at 7:30 A.M.
- Opening ceremonies start at 8:30 A.M.
- 5K starts at 9 A.M.
- Flat Course
The 5K is open to runners and walkers (including strollers and wheelchair participants.)

Prizes
A special plaque is awarded to the Fire Company, EMS Department and Police Department that shall consist of 3 runners per team and shall be based on the best combined time of the whole team. Trophies are presented by age categories based on best time and are presented after all participants have completed the 5K.

Each entry receives a long sleeve or short sleeve (their choice) cotton shirt with logo and a bag of goodies. Water is available during the run and refreshments available free of charge for participants following the 5K.

The first 5K on June 24, 2006 was an overwhelming success with 204 participants in the event and a crowd for the other events with all the food being sold. Everyone had a great time and they even got to dunk some local officials in the dunking booth. At the opening ceremonies which featured our Pennsylvania State Representative, the Athens Township Supervisors, the Fire Chiefs of Numerous Fire Companies, Representatives from the Greater Valley EMS, the District Magisterial Judge for Bradford County, the Athens Area High School Principal, Students from the Athens Area High School to sing the Alma Mater and Members of the Clergy and all our wonderful volunteers, the Athens Township Supervisors declared that the day of the run shall be established as “Jim King Day” in Athens Township. We thank each volunteer, the sponsors, those that made cash donations, the participants and all those that attended the event to help to make it a wonderful success. This success just proves that Jim’s belief in his community and in people was worth it all.

Raffle Tickets Are Available Prior to the Event and the Day of the Event.
All Drawings are done the day of the event and you need not be present to win.
